Frequently Anticipated Questions

"Anticipated?" Why not "Asked?"

Well, they're not frequently asked. Nobody has actually asked us these questions, the site is too new. These are just issues that we see as potentially coming up.

What the hell is Snailchan?

Snailchan is an imageboard website, constructed as a pseudo-revival of the long-deceased 7898chan/BBWchan. I say a pseudo-revival for a few reasons, namely that this website was NOT constructed by Popcorn Mariachi (although he is aware of this site and has given advice regarding it), that we do not have the same board selection, and perhaps most obviously, that we aren't named BBWchan.

Wait, I thought BBWchan already came back!

Well, here's the thing: bbw-chan (note the hyphen), while re-creating the board selection of the original, didn't really follow the spirit of BBWchan beyond that (no offense to them). a lot of what made BBWchan/7898chan unique was their permissive, controlled-chaos style of moderation. More on that momentarily, but the point is: yes, they brought back certain aspects of BBWchan that were important to them. However, we've chosen to bring back the aspects that were important to us. Also Popcorn Mariachi likes us better :3

Why Just 5 boards?

Well, here's the thing: Snailchan has been a ridiculously long time coming. Originally, we were supposed to have many boards, comparable to BBWchan at its demise. All of that nice stuff was to be built upon imageboard software known as Drydock. Unfortunately, Drydock version 0.31, which will have the features we require, has been a long time coming, due to the busy schedules of the programmers making it. They're making it in their spare time, and the work is quality, it's just taking awhile. In due time, we will transition to Drydock from our current ghetto-rigged Wakaba setup. In the mean time, this temporary situation will suffice, with /mfetish/ picking up much of the slack that will eventually be handled by dedicated boards.

So what is this "controlled-chaos" moderation style you were blathering about earlier?

One of the aspects of BBWchan that we've felt was most-appealing was the method in which they made and enforced rules. The philosophy they established, and which we wish to continue, is: "If you dislike it, turn a blind eye to it." What this basically means is that as long as it features the content the board is intended for and won't get us put in jail, it belongs here. Whining about content you don't enjoy, using "sage" for such content, or obstructing an otherwise-constructive thread by trolling will result in a ban. It doesn't matter if it's gay, furry, guro, scat, old-world furniture, or whatever else can be concieved. If it fits on the board, it stays. move on to the next thread and leave it alone if it offends you. This is further explained on the rules page, and visiting said page is recommended.

B-but where's /bbw/?

Not here. Not ever. We like 'em big just as much as you, my fatty-loving friend, but the /bbw/ and /bbwart/ boards caused an absurd amount of drama which were instrumental in making the original BBWchan incredibly obnoxious towards the time of the site's demise. You're still welcome to make BBW threads in /mfetish/ for the time being, but mind your Ps and Qs. We will be watching this closely.

Ok, but what about /size/, /li/, /goo/, etc. etc...

Use /mfetish/! many of those will be returning once we make our transition to drydock.

How can I contact you?

You can use admin.snailchan@gmail.com, but we'd much prefer you use IRC. we're located in #snailchan on irc.rizon.net and of course, you're going to need an IRC client of some kind. I'd recommend MIRC for windows, and Xchat for Linux. Mac users are going to have to figure it out on their own, i've never used one.

You asshole, your website has my non-free content on your site!

Ok, first of all, we can be contacted admin.snailchan@gmail.com or on IRC, in #snailchan on irc.rizon.net. Second of all, do NOT go into it with that attitude. We aren't responsible for what our users post, and we are happy to cooperate with you in removing your content from our site. Furthermore, we'll gladly add you to our "Do Not Post" list (featured on the rules page) to prevent this from happening in the future. Seriously though, be polite, don't make threats, and don't just throw a form letter at us. Courtesy goes a long way.
